Acholi Quarters is a slum outside of Kampala, Uganda, where many refugees of the brutal conflict in the north have resettled in after years of bloodshed and violence. It is also the home of a team of women whose lives have been changed by a beautiful business partnership with a San Diego-based company called Ember Arts. The women of Ember Arts produce striking jewelry made out of hundreds of pieces of recycled paper. The jewelry, entire hand-made by the women's co-opertive, is then shipped to and sold in the US. At the end of the day it's about the women, their children, and their communities- the lives that have improved dramatically.
